The unique attributes of linear structured metallocene catalyst polyethylene materials are well known on the market. In extrusion coating, however, the implementation has not been as fast as in other applications. The limited growth is related to the linear structure of mLLD’s. This study shows that by using Borstar™ bimodal technology it is possible to produce linear polymers, which behave almost like normal LDPE in coating lines.
Different metallocene LLD’s and a conventional LDPE were tested. Especially high hot tack strength and low heat seal initiation temperatures are benefits, which will increase mLLD’s usage also in the extrusion coating field.
