The paper will show the different available barrier materials and explain advantages and disadvantages. One group are the organic, the other the inorganic barrier materials. Both groups offer different barrier properties like good gas or moisture barrier, some have combined barrier properties.

In the next part the paper will show what inorganic barrier means, how they are produced and what high barrier means. On the example of a SiOx electron beam coating line the process and the main components of the machine will be explained.
