In the flexible plastics converting industry, primed films are commonly extrusion coated or laminated with polyethylene or ethylene copolymers. To achieve sufficient adhesion to a primed film, the converter must insure the extrusion process parameters meet certain criteria. These criteria include, in order of importance, surface oxidation, coating thickness, and melt temperature. In this paper, we introduce a new technique that allows us to relate the machine variables to the effective level of stable surface oxidation.
