The kraft cooks for the hot-water-extracted Eucalyptus wood chips were performed to study the pulping kinetics. Liquor analysis was conducted to assess the alkali consumption, and the extent of delignification by measuring lignin concentration in the liquor and carbohydrate concentration. The physical properties such as Scott bond, tear strength and burst factor were also measured to examine the impact of hot-water extraction on the fiber quality. It was found that for a mass removal about 20 % after hot-water extraction, the pulp yield following traditional kraft pulping is at about 39 % all based on the virgin wood chip dry mass. The delignification was completed in about 120 minutes and carbohydrate loss during pulping continues throughout the pulping time.
