This paper describes three new applications of short-bed ion exchange technology designed to enable kraft pulp mills to reduce chemical makeup costs. Generator Acid Purification (GAP™) technology removes sulfuric acid from chlorine dioxide generator spent acid, reducing the amount of caustic required for neutralization. Precipitator Dust Purification (PDP™) technology removes sodium chloride from electrostatic precipitator catch, allowing greater recovery of catch chemicals while controlling chloride levels. Green Liquor Splitter (GLS™) technology can be used to prepare enriched and lean sulfidity pulping liquors or as an advantageous step in the preparation of sodium sulfite in NSSC or BCTMP mills.
