Pulp and paper machine forming fabrics, press felts and roll covers were tested for resistance to residual hydrogen peroxide. After laboratory immersion for up to 20 weeks in synthetic white water, some fabrics and felts showed no degradation in up to 200 ppm peroxide; others were degraded due to peroxide attack of nylon 6 woven base filaments. Three typical roll cover materials were found to resist residual peroxide. Other tests showed chlorine dioxide residual to be over ten times more aggressive to a press felt than hydrogen peroxide. It is concluded that up to 25 ppm residual peroxide in white water should be tolerable with careful selection of machine clothing
