This paper shows the results of work done in the mill and laboratory in order to identify the source and behavior of the fiber fines in a bleached pulp production process for sugar cane bagasse. The process consists of a moist, wet depithing and bagasse washing stage, chemical pulping with soda AQ, and bleaching with DCEopHP sequence. The laboratory work done in an experimental oil bath digester confirmed that the pith content in the fiber fed to the digester is the main cause of fines in the final pulp and that it has a significant impact in other important cooking variables.
