There is very little technical information on peroxide bleaching of TMP pulps made from Southern Pine. The paper will describe the objectives of the TMP pulp bleaching project at the Calhoun mill, its different phases for completion and the final equipment configuration selected for the project. We give the results of the lab study that showed the potential of the bleach plant prior to its installation.
We describe the operation of the bleach plant from the dewatering presses performance and the brightness response to chemical charges in the different stages of the bleach plant. We evaluated the process response to the residual/fresh peroxide and alkali charge in the medium consistency stage and the process response to the alkali and peroxide in the high consistency stage. We will give a summary of the operating performance to show the production rate, uptime, chemical consumption and brightness response since the start-up of the bleach plant.
