During papermaking several factors can create periodicpatterns within a sheet, for example felt marking, rollmarking, or headbox rheology. A new technique hasbeen developed for detecting these patterns, from smallscale (e.g. wiremarks) to large scale (e.g. streaks). Theirangle, period and intensity are determined. As periodicpatterns compromise product quality when they becometoo severe, this new method can be used for productquality control and in a process control loop.
