Model predictive control (MPC) applications offer low-risk, high-return opportunities for significant improvement in quality and profitability in pulp and paper operations. Effective utilization of MPC applications rely on three key factors; well instrumented and properly maintained process measurement systems, high quality historical data, and robust process models that can be implemented online. This paper focuses on the development and deployment of high quality, robust process models in online applications which add significant value and increase operational profitability.
