Mill personnel at a Southeastern tissue mill performed a trial to investigate the viability of improving Wet Strength Resin (WSR) efficiency by feeding a cationic polymer to control the variations of anionic charge. The feed rate of the cationic polymer was controlled using an automatic, online charge demand analyzer. The trial was designed in conjunction with their chemical supplier and charge measurement equipment supplier. This presentation will discuss how the mill was able to design, install, and run a successful trial of this charge control program in under 3 months and review the cost saving benefits of the program, which included over a 25% reduction in WSR usage.
