To optimize the dewatering, action should be taken in the press section to avoid additional energy costs in the dryer section – something that pays off quickly. To see to that this is possible one need to measure and analyze especially the press clothing and the most common and important measured parameters are moisture and permeability profiles of the press felts. With new complementary techniques it is now possible to visualize moisture and permeability variations as detailed maps in 2D and 3D, making it possible to pinpoint any problems in press felts. Frequency analysis and felt length are additional properties also measured and presented simultaneously. (The presentation will focus on results from a new instrument released May 2006. The instrument is a further development of the industry de-facto standard from Scanpro and has among other things been complemented with position measurements of both MD and CD)
