The pulp and paper industry has a need to relate some type of stickies/pitch measurement to runnability issues at the paper machine. Holes, wet end breaks and dry end breaks due to deposits can cause runnability issues and paper machine down time. Most operations see no correlation between traditional deposit tests in the recycle plant and problems on the paper machine. The industry has identified the need for on-line contaminant monitoring using reliable tests to measure stickies and predict deposition.
