Vinyl and paper-based decorative overlays have successfully been used for many years delivering enhanced appearance, toughness and water resistance to engineered panels for use in furniture, cabinets, flooring, etc. While the developments in these overlays have been substantial, overall performance is still compromised; paper inherently has poor water resistance and vinyl has its issues with plasticizer. SynDECOR was developed to meet the markets’ need for a superior, cost-effective overlay and is built on an oriented polypropylene core with proprietary engineered surfaces to provide surface toughness and print fidelity on the outside and excellent adhesion on the backside. Inherent in this highly crystalline oriented polypropylene core is exceptional water resistance as well as a barrier to the formaldehyde found in the board. It is also free of any harmful chemicals or VOC’s. This enhanced oriented polypropylene laminate is available in a range of basis weights from 23gsm to 60gsm with a variety of coatings to meet customer requirements for scratch, stain and abrasion resistance. It is our belief that if the industry starts with a superior platform upon which to produce a printed or coated decorative overlay, then the laminator, the case goods producer and the consumer all benefit.
