The development of 100% solid adhesives has interested the industry since the mid sixties, justified by the dramatic cut on energy costs and VOC emissions, allowed by the new technology. Such advantages generated the proper background to motivate both adhesive and machinery manufacturers to invest in an extravagant technology: adhesives with no adhesion (at green!). In coating and lamination, synergies between chemistry and machinery design have always generated positive results, but, for 100% solid adhesive, something new happened: the complete integration between the two factors made the dream come true.
This paper will present the fundamental evolution of the technology, mainly from the machinery point of view without losing sight of the chemistry side.
