The Paper will concentrate on the functionality of applying Primers, Heat Seal Coatings, & Varnishes with two different application techniques. These techniques include Gravure Coating and Rod Coating. The two methods will be discussed to evaluate their Standard Operating Procedure, functionality and limitations then comparing the two differing application’s advantages/disadvantages
Some typical coatings that are applied by these two methods are Primers for print adhesion, Heat seal, Primers for extrusion coating, and overprint varnish. The applied weights range from 1 to 8 gsm wet. The viscosities are typically considered low viscosity less than 400 cps. The percent solids range from 1 up to 50 percent.
