Roll alignment is at the core of good predictive maintenance in all converting, paper and plastics processes. Ensuring proper roll alignment allows for better production planning and cost-effectiveness, especially in regards to downtime. There is a new inertial roll alignment measurement technology that brings great advantages to many industries regardless of line-of-sight issues or subjective readings. The instrument produces instantaneous results, which can be used immediately to do on-site corrections, hence making downtime more productive.
In contrast to all conventional systems requiring line-of-sight, the system is based on a completely new technology for the alignment of rolls. The device contains three highly accurate ring-laser gyroscopes, which have a so-called ‘inertia’. With three gyroscopes in the same housing, it is possible to make this device “capable of learning”.
