With the growing use of ICC color management, users are beginning to request profiles specific to their printing paper. There is an increase in requests from paper customers for CIE L*a*b* values and ICC profiles that are representative of the color characteristics of their printing paper. This research presents results and observations relating to a practical press run. In order to generate color profile data for different paper grades and stocks, a press run was done with 24 different papers at Schmitz Press in Baltimore over a two-day period. The practical issues relating to running a press in order to generate representative color data are presented.
