An imaging-based system has been developed for online web analysis in the wet end of both fourdrinier and twin-wire machines. Consecutive images can be stitched together to a continuous map of the fibre mat along the machine direction. The functionality has been verified through comparisons with offline measurements of the formation. Ex-periences from several mill installations prove that the system is capable of monitoring formation and detect quality degrading web features, enabling optimization and troubleshooting.
