Contents of process water solids are commonly evaluated based on filtration and evaporation methods, e.g. consistency, suspended solids and dry matter content, while the analysis of colloidal materials are based on various extraction methods or suspension turbidity. However, a selective analysis determining the ink content from filtration waters or effluents, relevant when contaminant carry-over or internal purification methods are studied, is not readily available. This paper shows how some existing hand-sheet and membrane measurement methods used for deinked pulps can be utilised for ink content analysis from process waters.
