The flotation sub-process in the deinking process is a fascinating combination of machinery technology, flow dynamics and surface chemistry. Developing improved flotation technology requires understanding and mastering all these practices. Metso has been developing over several years, new OptiCell flotation technology based on customer feedback and also experiences in existing technology. Fundamental studies were undertaken to find improved solutions and boost the performance of flotation process. Key tools have been computational fluid dynamics modeling and experimental work at the Metso Fiber Technology Center (MFTC), including the application of new bubble size analysis methods which will be reviewed.
