With the development of the IPST detection method based on fractionation and measurement of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) for colloidal organics it is possible to make on-line measurements with updates about every 5 minutes and a full set of tests every 30 minutes. With the ability to relate colloidal organic variation to paper machine runnability comes the desire to control and manage the process to reduce downtime and lost production. This study deals with how the addition of cyclodextrin can be used to control and manage colloidal micro-stickies by reducing variability and keeping colloidal organics stable.
