The first melting temperature (T0) of the ash deposit on superheater tube surfaces has been suggested to be used as a design criterion regarding the recovery boiler steam parameters. It has been shown that corrosion of superheaters dramatically accelerates when this temperature is exceeded in the tube metal. However, in bubbling fluidized bed boilers (BFB) corrosion has been observed on tube surfaces at temperatures below the T0 of the deposit in chlorine containing environments. In recent years, there have been indications of this type of corrosion also in black liquor recovery boilers (BLRB).
