Emission standards for power boilers are becoming difficult to meet without the most up to date environmental controls. Therefore, investing in the optimum air pollution technology is crucial. Flexibility in fuels being fired in the boiler with minimum impact to the environmental emissions increases the mill’s ability to adjust fuel mix and stay competitive in a changing economical climate. In the past, the standard solution has been assumed to consist of a combination of particulate removal using a dry ESP followed by SO2 removal using a wet scrubber. This is not necessarily the best option, however .
