The dissolution of calcium carbonate can be prevented by using carbon dioxide based applications, based on the use of carbon dioxide only or on the use of a combination of carbon dioxide and sodium hydroxide. By using these technologies, we can simultaneously optimize process water hardness and pH-levels and improve process stability. This paper describes these applications and the benefits of using them. Different paper machines require different solutions. A number of mill cases demonstrate the different solutions using LINDE’s proprietary carbon dioxide based technology.
