Neutral papermaking in newsprint grades mills started some 30 years ago in Europe. This was primarily done to be able to use high ratios of calcium carbonate containing deinked fiber. In addition, adding CaCO3 as primary filler lowers production cost, increases sheet brightness and improves print quality.
