Macrostickies removal efficiency was measured in aBoard Mill to track brown stock screeningimprovements by using smaller slots and other systemmodifications. The agglomerated microstickies in thefeed and accept lines to the fine pressure screens inthe system were measured using the new PulmacClassifier. Preliminary data indicate that the primaryscreens produce microstickies when the slot widthwas reduced from 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) to 0.2 mm(0.008 inch). Two common sense rules are proposed for screeningsystem design considerations. We recommend thatthe conventional cascade system be replaced by theforward flow arrangement in compliance with the tworules. Microstickies in the headbox and white water are alsobeing monitored to control effect on paper machinerunnability and product quality. Results will bereported in future.
