Wood is a certified, renewable, sustainable feedstock with an existing, secured supply infrastructure already in place. Since the 1940’s, 33 percent more trees are grown than are harvested in the United States. Every year two billion trees are planted, about six and a half million every day. The value of wood as a renewable resource is shown in the fact that the same forests in Maine that produced wood for the Continental Navy are still providing wood for the forest products industry today.

Wood provides us with a myriad of possibilities with its inherent sustainability and multitude of uses. Wood is a parent source for many things from toilet tissue to magazines, clothing to toothpaste. It is also the basis of wood extract-derived biofuels.

Red Shield Acquisitions, doing business as Old Town Fuel and Fiber, is a division of Patriarch Partners. Partnered with the University of Maine, the Department of Energy, and others RSA began a path forward to construct and implement a biorefinery to develop second generation biofuels on an economically viable basis.
