Metso has delivered a couple of so called high power recovery boilers, Recox boilers. One has been delivered toUPM-Kymmene Kymi Mill (Kymi) in Finland and another one to Celulose Beira Industrial (Celbi) mill in Portugal. In Kymi a new recovery line replaced two outdated recovery boilers from 1964 and 1976 and the delivery consisted of three new boilers (recovery boiler, gas fired package boiler and CNCG incinerator), flue gas scrubber, ash leaching plant and new innovation of automatic smelt spout robot. In Celbi, new recovery boiler replaced old boiler from 1981. This delivery also included Hybex BFB (Bubbling Fluidized Bed Boiler) boiler and evaporation plant. New safety features for operators have been adapted in both boilers. Black liquor spraying system with liquor gun rodders secures safe working environment near the liquor gun area. Safety walls at the front of the smelt spouts in Kymi and Celbi lower the noise level and prevent possible smelt splashes. New innovation, an automatic smelt spout robot in Kymi ensures cleanliness of the spouts and prevents them from plugging without exposing operators to the risky job.
This paper describes the technical features, new innovations and some operational experiences from high power recovery boilers in Kymi and in Celbi.
