Polyolefin elastomers are a recognized technology used to impart to impart tough, soft, impact resistant, resilient and durable coatings in many applications in the automotive interiors, nonwovens, wire coating and footwear markets. More specifically in the nonwovens industry, they have been used to provide differentiated products in diapers, adult pants, wound care, medical drapes and gowns, disposable garments and sanitary wipes. However, polyolefin elastomers are used primarily as 100% solids form in coating methods, such as extrusion and injection molding, or as modifiers during sheet formation of polyolefin films. This paper introduces a new class of polyolefins, specifically aqueous polyolefin dispersions (PODS), which are now readily available for use in conventional aqueous coating methods to nonwoven manufacturers. This technology enables nonwovens and textiles producers to use existing aqueous coating equipment to coat, spray or saturate their products with a range of polyolefin-based coatings to enhance and differentiate their products.
