Microencapsulation, while an “old technology,” has not been widely understood, therefore, it is limited in its commercial applications. This presentation will attempt to differentiate types and properties of microcapsules to better see opportunities to utilize this technology. We will compare physical encapsulation to chemical encapsulation with micrographs and measures.
Open innovation is a term batted around industry without a lot of understanding of what it entails. While microencapsulation may not be widely used in the nonwovens industry, a unique collaborative approach to product innovation may provide nonwovens companies new ways to leverage the depth and breadth of resources of one of the world’s first and most experienced microencapsulators. We will show a business model that seems to make the promise of open innovation realizable due to its non-competitive approach to partners.
