Combining fabrics and resins produces a composite with many advantages - printability, water resistance, cleanability - but can have significant disadvantages due to the low moisture vapor permeability typical of most conventional resins. This is of particular concern when the coated fabrics are used for applications where moisture vapor permeability is related to comfort, or where trapped moisture can increase susceptibility of a covered object to corrosion or mold growth. Durability can also be affected if the adhesion of the resin to the fabric is inadequate. Performance of a new resin combining good adhesion to common woven and nonwoven substrates as well as good moisture vapor permeability is described.
