The USB’s interest in soy fiber presents an excellent opportunity to grow an application for soy flake to compete with petroleum based synthetic fibers. Soy fiber was first investigated and patented by Boyer of Ford Motor Company and Inoue of Sangyo in the 1930’s and 40’s.

The dramatic growth of synthetic fibers in the 1950’s and 60’s displaced soy fiber sales and curtailed development. Recent crude oil price fluctuations, increased availability of soy flake, and the “Greening of America” movement have stimulated renewed interest in soy fiber.
