Modified calcium carbonates (MCCs) have been evaluated quite extensively for inkjet paper coating applications. This presentation focuses on two pilot coater trials in which high solids versions of commercially available MCCs were applied with both a blade coater (MCC 50%) and with a metering size press (MCC 60%). Generic formulations were run on both types of coaters (as single coatings) without any runnability issues. The printed papers exhibited excellent appearance, densities, and water fastness compared to commercially available papers.
