This paper represents a portion of the work done in the area of shoe calendering development by the authors during the past few years. The theoretical part of the study includes a math-ematic-physical model of the calendering process. The applied model is based on Bingham plas-tic mechanics, thermodynamics, and theory of lubrication. The relationship between the calen-dering conditions and paper properties can be established with the help of the new model. An example of the optimization of shoe calendering parameters for folding boxboard shows the ef-fectiveness of the new mathematical model. The results of pilot calender trials are also pre-sented and discussed.
