Vacumet has filed patent applications on systems for improving the moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) of porous substrates, such as C1S paper. All C1S papers that were tested showed immediate failure under tropical testing conditions (100°F, 100% RH/24 hours in a Mocon Permatran-W 3/61). Coatings have been discovered that achieve long-term protection to metal layers that provide MVTR’s of 1-10 g/m² under these conditions. This work was undertaken to provide a more sustainable packaging alternative to petroleum and foil-based materials where moderate MVTR barrier is required.
