The impact of the materials and methods used in laminations for the flexible packaging industry has become ever more important. Not only is the efficiency of each method important. There must be consideration of the total energy impact as well as the impact on the carbon footprint. In this paper, an analysis called Life Cycle Inventory will be presented for the extrusion process as well as three common types of adhesives used in lamination. While the efficiency of extrusion lamination would appear to be best, the overall impact leads to alternate conclusions.
