In this paper, the use of small (30mm diameter screws), so called high speed extruders will be discussed for coating applications using polyethylene. The research work was carried out by experimental investigations on an extruder in the laboratory of the Kunststofftechnik Paderborn as well as by computer simulations. Solid conveying will be considered as well as the relevant parameters along the screw’s length and the melt quality at the screw’s tip.
