AMEC was engaged by a confidential market Kraft pulp manufacturer to optimize a four-stage ECF bleach plant. Although the focus of the optimization was to reduce the bleaching and bleach plant scrubber chemical costs, the optimization also stabilized brightness development across the bleach plant and reduced the amount of low brightness off-grade. After an assessment of the bleach plant equipment and operating conditions, some key operational shortcomings where identified and addressed.
