Much of the hype around Smart Grid has focused on either the benefits to residential consumers, especially around smart meters, or to utilities with the opportunity to automate, optimize and improve however industrial energy consumers are potentially better positioned to lead the way with the smart metering concept due to their access to the kind of real-time information needed, their potential ability to manage demand and possibly their latent electrical generation. The process is initially regulatory in nature involving analysis of the state of the State’s Deregulation effort, the existence of an ISO and the legislation in place relating to electric market deregulation.
