A multi-mill corrosion coupon monitoring program was initiated in 2006 with participating mills from across North America. The objective of the program was to refresh information available from similar surveys conducted in the 1980's. Substantial process changes have occurred in kraft mills since the previous surveys were conducted, and it was felt that updated data could provide good guidance on materials selection for kraft pulp operations. in particular, two questions were posed: are bleach plant filtrates more or less corrosive than 20 years ago, and what alloys are best suited to replace carbon steel in kraft liquors?
