in this work, we presentpumping characteristics and new experimental data of flow properties of two different types of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). Both a centrifugal pump and a screw pump were studied. The characteristic curves of centrifugal pumps for MFC are identical to those of water but due to yield stress of MFC there is an upper limit to the consistency where centrifugal pumps may be used. The screw pumps are, on the other hand, favorable when pumping high consistency MFC. We also show an easy way for MFC pumping line dimensioning. This method is based on determination of fluidization point of MFC at different consistencies. Below the fluidization point, MFC exhibits a shear thinning flow behavior while above the point, the flow behavior approaches that of water. This data and the analysis methods are valuable when planning and sizing futures manufacturing and pumping lines for different MFC grades.
