The effect of non-woven base on press felt dewatering property is investigated through a laboratory two-roll pressing study. It is found that the sheets pressed with a non-woven felt have higher solids content and the orientation of the non-woven yarns in the base does not have significant effect on water removal. Compared with the conventional and multi-axial felts, the non-woven felts tend to have lower air permeability after conditioning. Compared with the felts with woven bases, the non-woven felts have higher compressibility, less void volume and better pressure uniformity. The better dewatering of the non-woven felts is mainly attributed to the reduced rewetting and the better pressure uniformity.
