Precalendering was frequently discussed as an option to reduce the variance in coating thickness distributions [1] which is known to be an important factor in order to improve print quality, e.g. [2, 3, 4]. Different effects of precalendering were found: A more uniform coating layer after precalendering was reported [5, 6, 7], but an inverse trend was observed too [8].
