In this paper, a continuous digester runnability failure identification analysis methodis introduced. The systemis designed to identify runnability failures in the chemical pulping line in cases both leading to production shutdown and production rate reduction.Runnability failures were evaluated using process performance indices and clustered using k-means algorithm to find failure pathways. Therunnabilityfailure identification systemwas developed and validated using process data from the industrial scale Kamyr digester.
