Repassivation kinetics of alloys in particular environment is a crucial property and determines alloy’s resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and erosion-corrosion processes. In this study, the repassivation kinetics of 304L stainless steel in white water environment were investigated using scratch tests the current transients were modeled using a log(i) vs. 1/q relationship. The slope of the linear region was used as an indicator of repassivation rates. Elevated concentrations of chloride and sulfate are found to slow down the repassivation rate. Presence of thiosulfate ions also increase the slope of log(i) vs. 1/q curve. An alteration in repassivation kinetics was observed possibly due to the chemical instability of thiosulfate.
