Structured sheet making processes such as TAD, ATMOSMTM and NTTTM are becoming more prevalent in tissue manufacturing. Easy release from the structured fabric when the sheet is transferred to the Yankee dryer is essential to maintaining desired sheet quality. Traditional release agents used in light dry creping are not optimum for these new processes. Understanding the release mechanism and evaluating various chemistries to effectively provide sheet release is necessary for both developing good fabric release products and troubleshooting when issues arise. However, due to the complexity around structured sheet making operations, such as rush transfer, sheet moulding, etc. it has been difficult to evaluate effectiveness of fabric release agents in the laboratory.
