Yankee surface chatter can be attributed to numerous causes, one of them is the internal condensate extraction system of the Yankee dryer. There are several tools available to help identify the problem before entering the dryer, that would confirm the need or not to enter; this could save on shutting and cooling the Yankee for entry and save on unplanned downtime.
This paper gives some examples of chatter problems: where the problem was the dryer internals and where the internals were thought to be the problem and weren’t.
