The desire by papermakers to achieve higher machine efficiencies and improved productivity has driven continuous improvement in the development of paper machine retention and drainage products. Ashland Water Technologies has recently developed a water-dispersed, retention and drainage polymer technology that is oil-free and FDA-approved. This technology provides both retention and drainage in one product and is particularly suited for treating heavier weight packaging grades where drainage can be a challenge. This paper will review this new technology and provide case studies to demonstrate proven results.
