An electrolytic oxidation process to produce polysulfide (PS) liquor from the kraft white liquor (WL) and integration of this process to the kraft pulping (KP) system is proposed. Electrolytic oxidation of WL through electric cell provides highly concentrated PS liquor in the anode compartment with extremely high efficiency, and simultaneously, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2) are available in the cathode compartment. We have succeeded in the development of WL electrolysis demo plant for the first time in the world.
